Dear TeenHealthFX,
Do you think its alright for a 14 year old to take Hydroxycut? how long does it take before it starts to intefer with growth, and can it ever stunt growth? even if its only for a month of taking the pills does it still effect the body that much?

Dear Alright To Take Hydroxycut?,
TeenHealthFX is glad that you wrote. You are 14 and your body is still growing - that means that you should not take any unnecessary over the counter medications (like Hydroxycut or diet pills) or medications that were not prescribed specifically for you by a doctor.
These drugs promote weight loss by claiming to increase metabolism, increase energy, reduce food cravings and burn fat - all of which can be achieved naturally with a sensible balanced diet and exercise program. It may sounds simple, but the best way to maintain a healthy weight really is to eat healthy and to get regular exercise. Although you may not see results immediately, your hard work will pay off in time. Just remember -- if you are interested in losing weight, eating healthy and exercising is the way to go.
If you are serious about starting a weight loss program, rather than turning to pills, TeenHealthFX recommends that you make an appointment with a doctor who can evaluate you to see if you need to lose weight and prescribe a diet and exercise plan best suited for your needs. Your doctor may also have you see a nutritionist (a medical person that specializes in weight loss). If you do not already have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health in Morristown, New Jersey, you can call 973.971.6475 for an appointment.
