Feces, Poop & Butt Issues / Question
Published: January 15, 2000

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am a 17 year old male and I have a problem. There is a spot just below my waistline (right where the crack of my butt starts) that bleeds and doesn't heal. It is not a lot of blood, but it does bleed sometimes.

Dear Bleeding From The Crack Of My Butt,

You may be describing a medical concern that is not uncommon! Many people are born with a small opening (sinus or cyst) at the base of their spine that gives them no problems until puberty begins. During puberty, it may bleed and become irritated, red, swollen or infected. Not to worry though, it is very treatable.

You need to see a doctor so the area can be examined, a diagnosis can be made, and treatment can begin. Also, if you are experiencing any bleeding from your rectum (where your stool comes out of), let your doctor know about it.

Just as a note, any time you have any open sore or area on your body that does not heal, a doctor should evaluate you.

Go to the doctor to relieve your worries soon!
