Hairy Situations: Too Much, Too Little & Shaving / Question
Published: August 5, 2000

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I'm really confused about what type of razor to shave with. Should I use foam or an electric razor or what?

Dear Shaving With Electric Or Foam,

When you begin to shave it is always good to think about what method you are best suited for, whether it is using a disposable razor and shaving cream or an electric razor and maybe some aftershave lotion. You might want to try both methods first in order to see which you feel most comfortable with. Often times, your skin will prefer the feel of one over the other. You also need to consider the factor of time. If you are pressed for time in the mornings when you need to shave, you do not want to be using a method that takes time and concentration.

How To's- Shaving My Face and How To's Shaving & Bumps offers excellent tips on shaving, the In's and Out's of each method and safety tips. It might help explain what method is better suited for you. If you feel comfortable enough you may want to ask your dad, brother or other male friends who have already been shaving for awhile which method they use and why. They also might be able to help you out the first couple of times.
