Picking at or squeezing pimples can cause infection or scarring and can actually make your acne even worse. In addition, people with darker skin tones often find that picking at pimples will cause skin discoloration that remains long after the acne is gone. Most acne will clear up on its own, however, if you need more aggressive treatment, a primary care physician or dermatologist should be consulted.
Stress and anxiety can contribute to chronic headaches, but there are other contributing factors to consider as well. These include depression, sleep disturbances, obesity, snoring, overuse of caffeine, or overuse of pain medications. In most cases, chronic headaches do not have an underlying medical cause. However, daily headaches can also be a sign of inflammation or other problems related to blood vessels around the brain, infections (such as meningitis), pinched nerves in the neck, brain tumor, or traumatic brain injury. If you suffer from chronic headaches, a medical health professional should be consulted.
A yeast infection will not go away by itself and does require treatment with antifungal medications. If you are concerned you may have a yeast infection, it is important that you meet with your doctor so he/she can determine whether you actually have a yeast infection, and then recommend a course of treatment based on his/her finding. Yeast infections can be cured with antifungal medications in the form of creams, tablets, ointments, or suppositories that are inserted into the vagina. There are products that are used to treat yeast infections that can be purchased over-the-counter at a drug store or grocery store. Your doctor can also prescribe a pill to be taken orally.
Being overweight is a primary risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Insulin is an important hormone that delivers glucose (sugar) to our cells. There is some evidence that fat cells are more resistant to insulin than muscle cells. Therefore, if a person has more fat cells than muscle cells, then the insulin becomes less effective overall, and glucose remains circulating in the blood instead of being taken into the cells to be used as energy. Once a person is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, there is a lifelong commitment that must be made to blood sugar monitoring, healthy eating, regular exercise, and, sometimes, diabetes medications or insulin therapy • this is to keep the blood sugar level so that complications can be avoided or delayed.
Counseling with a mental health professional to learn stress-reduction techniques, deep breathing to calm the mind and relax the abdominal muscles, and hypnosis to relax your body and abdominal area can all help prevent or alleviate symptoms associated with IBS. Biofeedback, regular exercise, yoga, massage, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation are also methods that have been proven helpful for those with IBS.
