ME & Relationships / Question
Published: January 29, 2010

Dear TeenHealthFX,

There's a guy and there is NO reason for me to like him! He has the worst personality ever! He is very immature for his age, he gets really loud and obnoxious, and VERY aggressive. Just the other day in P.E. we were playing a game and he got so mad at his team; he was throwing the ball in their faces. Hard. HIS OWN TEAM! He can be rude sometimes and he's sort of popular... Not completely. The one and only reason I can think of that makes me like him is I think he likes me. That's it! He is NOT my type; he's not even cute! Is it even normal for young teens to be this way? It seems kinda strange to me... Even the sound of his voice bothers me! So what is it that's drawing me to him???

Dear No Reason For Me to Like Him,

There could be a host of reasons why you are attracted to someone who “has the worst personality ever.” So far the only explanation that makes sense to you is that it has something to do with him liking you. You have to ask yourself why that is significant for you. Is it because you feel pressure to be in a relationship because it seems like everyone else is in one? Is it possible that you are taking the safe route? If you believe that this boy likes you then there is less risk of rejection. In either case neither one is a very good reason to be in a relationship. How are you going to spend time with someone you basically can’t stand?

You deserve better than that. Find someone who makes you feel special and treats you well. If one of your friends asked you this same question what advice would you offer to him/her? Sometimes a person can see things more clearly if they can look at the situation from a different point of view.
