Breasts & Nipples: Health Questions & Concerns / Question
Published: April 24, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am 15 and I have recently discovered hair on my breasts and around the nipples. I was wondering whether I can pluck this hair off or do you have any other suggestions?

Dear 15 With A Breast Hair Problem,

Small, little black hairs around your nipple are totally normal. During puberty the hormones in your body begin to change. This increase will signal the growth of hair in different areas including the groin area, under your arms and sometimes the chest.

There is not a lot you can do to remove the hair. If you absolutely cannot live with them, you can cut it, but this is only a temporary solution. TeenHealthFX does not recommend plucking, shaving, waxing, or using hair removal creams in this area, as the skin around the nipple is very sensitive.

If you feel that you have an excessive amount of hair growth on your chest and face, consult your doctor for some advice.
