Penis & Testicle Concerns / Question
Published: August 6, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am 20 and I have noticed that I do not have morning erections for a long time. I read from some other sources that the lack of morning erection might be a symptom of impotence. Is that true?

Dear No Morning Erection - Impotence,

Some males wake up with an erection and some do not. Either way, both are completely normal. So a lack of morning erections need not alarm you.

If you continue to be concerned about this you may want to talk to a doctor who can give you more information on your sexual health. You can go to a teen health clinic or local Planned Parenthood. If you live in Northern New Jersey you can contact the Adolescent Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. You can be seen at a teen health center without your parent's permission and on a low/no cost basis.
