Penis & Testicle Concerns / Question
Published: October 17, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I have a white rash on my penis. It increases every now and again, but not much. It doesn't itch or anything but I am stating to get worried. I don't know what to do. Can you help me? I am 13 years of age.

Dear White Rash On Penis,

What you need to do is see a doctor and let him/her diagnose the problem for you. It wouldn't be fair to you to try and make a diagnosis over the web. The penis has thin, sensitive skin, which is prone to whatever ailment the skin can get. This includes eczema, irritation from rubbing and yeast infections (yes yeast infections). The scrotum can also develop cysts which look like white bumps.

You didn't mention whether you were sexually active or not. If you are sexually active and not using precautions then you can add warts, herpes simplex and syphilis to the list.

Again, the best thing to do is to see your doctor. If you cannot see your doctor about it, call a teen health clinic or Planned Parenthood in your area. A teen health center can see you confidentially without your parent?s consent and on a low/no cost basis. If you live in northern New Jersey you can make an appointment at the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health by calling 973-971-6475.
