Breasts: They Come In All Shapes & Sizes / Question
Published: December 19, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Hi, I am 17 years old and I got my period when I was 13 and I've had a pretty regular cycle. The problem is I have very little breasts if any. I was wondering if there is a possibility that I will grow, and how much genetics has to do with breast development in their daughters, because my mother's and my grandmother's are big. Will I grow?

Dear 17 - Will My Breasts Grow,

Genetics has a great deal to do with development. The fact that your mother and grandmother are large-breasted increases the possibility that you will be large-breasted also, but it does not guarantee it. At 17 it is possible that you will continue to develop, but you will just have to wait and see. Some males and females are known to be "late bloomers."

TeenHealthFX always encourages our readers to look beyond physical attributes and accept themselves for who they are. The best way to do this is, is to begin with you. Looking only at flaws tends to hamper our ability to see the positive qualities that makes each one of us unique.  So try and relax and find the beauty in yourself irregardless of the size of your breasts.
