Starting To Get A Massive Anger Problem

Published: 2011年3月28日
Dear TeenHealthFX,
Hello, Im starting to get a massive anger problem that is getting extremely hard to control. I never took it out on others in a physical way until some guy at school really pissed me off and I just lost it. Now, the slightest things annoy me. I could just mess up on something small like a video game and end up going in a furious rage. The only way I can get rid of it is by punching a solid cement floor until my hands are swolen and bleeding. Please help, I really need it.

Dear Starting To Get A Massive Anger Problem,

Given that it sounds like you are feeling at somewhat of a loss of how to deal with this anger problem, a problem which has already left someone else and you physically harmed, TeenHealthFX strongly recommends that you meet with a trained mental health professional for a consultation. A therapist can assess the situation and help you better understand what is contributing to your anger. Once you have a better idea of what is causing these angry feelings and urges to rage on certain people and things, it will be easier to know how to best address the problem.

There are many things that can contribute to anger problems. They can include mood disorders such as bipolar disorder, steroid use, problematic family dynamics at home, and more. In addition, research has shown that various types of media, including certain video games, can negatively impact levels of aggression. Again, a therapist can help you to sort out the causes and then discuss the best ways to address the problem in order to decrease the frequency and intensity of your angry feelings and urges to lash out.

If you live in northern New Jersey and need help finding a therapist you can call the Access Center from Atlantic Behavioral Health at 888-247-1400. Outside of this area you can log onto the US Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website for referrals in your area. You can also contact your insurance company to get a list of in-network mental health providers or check with your school social worker or psychologist to get a list of referrals in your area.
