Remission Of UTI

Published: January 27, 2003
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I just recently finished treatment for a urinary tract infection but have started experiencing a frequent need to urinate and when I do very little comes out. However, I do not feel burning when I pee. Is this a remission of UTI or could it be related to vaginal shaving or infection?

Dear Remission Of UTI,

TeenHealthFX thinks the word you mean is "recurrence" (return) of the UTI (urinary tract infection). Remission is when something decreases.

It does seem likely that you are having a urinary tract infection again. UTI commonly presents as increased frequency of urination. However, if you are sexually active you may have a sexually transmitted disease, especially a Chlamydia infection, which can sometimes present as a UTI. You do not mention any injuries that could cause the symptoms that you describe.

TeenHealthFX recommends that you return to your doctor for re-treatment. Check out our answer to Burning When I Pee for more information about what you can do for a UTI.
