Early Period That Lasted Only 3 Days - Am I Pregnant?

Published: March 01, 2017
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I'm scared that I'd be pregnant. So the other day me and my partner made out naked and there was no penetration or anything of that sort. And after that I got an early period by 2 days but then it lasted only for 3 days and I'm having constipation problem and no other signs...is it possible for me to be pregnant? Or am I just over thinking :(

Dear Early Period That Lasted Only 3 Days - Am I Pregnant?,

TeenHealthFX can’t imagine that you are pregnant from the circumstances you described – just clearly and understandably very anxious! In order for pregnancy to occur the sperm contained in ejaculatory or pre-ejaculatory fluids needs to come in contact with the vagina. While you both may have been naked, you did not have intercourse and it doesn’t sound like anything else happened that could have put sperm in contact with your vagina.

In addition, if you got your period then you definitely would not be pregnant. One of the first signs of pregnancy is a missed period. If a woman misses her period and there is a possibility of pregnancy it would be a good idea to take a pregnancy test and/or meet with her doctor.

Again, TeenHealthFX cannot imagine how you could be pregnant if there was no penetration and you got your period after being naked next to your partner. However, if you are still concerned then it would be best to check in with a trusted adult such as a parent, school nurse, or your doctor.

FX would also recommend that you speak to your doctor about safer sex precautions. If you are planning on becoming sexually active, then it is important that you are using some form of birth control (such as the pill or birth control shot) as well as condoms. FX suggests you check out our Resource of the Month: Planned Parenthood Resources on Safer Sex so that you can learn about sexual readiness, how pregnancy happens, birth control, STDs, emergency contraception and more. The more you educate yourself about these things, the more likely you will make healthy decisions when it comes to sexual health issues.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
