My Boyfriend Ejaculated Inside Me - What Are The Chances I'm Pregnant?

Published: March 09, 2017
Dear TeenHealthFX,

My cycle is 31 days. And is regular. My period last 5 days. I had sex today (day 6) and my boyfriend ejaculated inside of me. What are the chances that I'm pregnant?

Dear My Boyfriend Ejaculated Inside of Me - What Are The Chances I'm Pregnant?,

If you had unprotected sex and your boyfriend ejaculated inside of you then there is a possibility that you could get pregnant. TeenHealthFX can’t give you the exact odds, but it could happen. That said, FX recommends that you speak to your primary care physician, gynecologist or adolescent medicine specialist to find out if you should take emergency contraception (also known as the morning-after pill). You can purchase EC at your local health center or drug store. If you do use emergency contraception, you need to act quickly as it is only effective in preventing pregnancy when taken within 120 hours (5 days) of having unprotected sex. It is also important to know that with certain types of EC it is more effective the closer you take it to having unprotected sex.

FX also recommends that you speak with a doctor about birth control options if you are going to continue to be sexually active. Doctors generally recommend that teens and young adults who are sexually active use condoms to protect against unwanted pregnancies and the transmission of STDs, as well as a back-up method of birth control such as the pill or birth control shot.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.

Finally, FX recommends that you and your boyfriend check out the links in our Resource of the Month: Planned Parenthood Resources on Safer Sex to learn about sexual readiness, how pregnancy happens, birth control, STDs, emergency contraception, pregnancy tests and more. The more educated you and your boyfriend are about these topics, the more likely it is that you will make healthy decisions when it comes to sexual health issues.
