Dear TeenHealthFX,

I noticed this little bump on the inside of my vaginal lips - it's sensitive to touch and is raised up a little bit. It almost looks like a cyst or something. I'm scared that it's something serious. But I don't know how to tell my mom - what do I do?

Dear Bump On My Vaginal Lips,

TeenHealthFX recommends that you see a doctor and get it checked out ASAP!

TeenHealthFX cannot diagnose you over the Internet. In fact, only a doctor is going to be able to figure out what is wrong and get you treated. Anytime you have a bump that is different and especially a little sensitive, it is practicing good health to get it checked out.

If you are sexually active and cannot talk to your parents about this problem you can call your local teen health center or the Planned Parenthood in your area. If you live in Northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 889.6350 for an appointment. When making the appointment, let them know that you a new bump in your vaginal area and that you need to be seen quickly. Also, do not have sex (protected or unprotected) until a doctor sees you as it can make it worse or you may spread it to your partner.

Again, do not delay. The sooner you get help and treatment the sooner you'll feel better.
