Pubic Hair / Question
Published: August 7, 2001
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I have a big problem at the moment, a lot of pubic hair and I started to shave my lips, so when my man goes down on me, he doesn't have hair in his teeth. I started with cream, but there was always hair of 1 or 2 mm left and I was burning and itching for a couple of hours after. So I stopped and started shaving. The result was the same and I must say I was really scared to cut myself. But I never used anything before or after shaving or using the cream. There is the waxing, but I have no idea how to do it. Nor about the products to use before or after. I am embarrassed to ask someone I know or someone that's in front of me, or go to a beautician. My boyfriend is arriving on the 30.05.01 and I'd really like to solve the problem before. I'm really worried about it and I hope that you will want and be able to solve that problem. Thanks in advance.

Dear Too Much Pubic Hair! How Do I Get Rid Of It?,
Shaving pubic hair can be a delicate process that takes time to get comfortable with. If done properly, you body will get used to shaving and you will experience less discomfort over time. You should never try to shave your vaginal lips. This area is very sensitive and there is a significant risk that you could cut yourself and possibly develop an infection. The safest way to get rid of unwanted hair in the bikini area is to trim it with a small pair of clean, sharp scissors
Waxing can be done at home or by a professional. However, TeenHealthFX strongly recommends that home waxing only be done on legs. If you want a bikini wax you should have it done by a professional or at a salon.
For waxing legs, hairs should be a least 1/8" long before you begin waxing. There are hot and cold waxes offered by many manufacturers. Hot waxes can be heated in the microwave and are applied in a thin layer in the direction of hair growth. As the wax cools and hardens, hair becomes trapped. A cloth is then place over the wax and it is pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth. As you can imagine this may produce some discomfort.
Cold waxes work similarly to hot waxes. You use strips pre-coated with wax and are pressed into the skin. They are then rapidly removed in the opposite direction of hair growth.
This is just an overview of waxing. The product you buy will have specific directions for its use. Some also come with pain reducing gels and skin healing creams.
They say experience is the best teacher. Why not ask your mother, a relative or a female friend how they deal with excess pubic hair. It may sound like an odd suggestion, but think about it. There is a strong possibility that they have faced the same situation and you can benefit from their experience.
TeenHealthFX was wondering if you ever asked your boyfriend if he thought your pubic hair was interfering with your sex life. If it does not matter to him, then maybe you do not need to worry about this issue.
