Dear STD From A Handjob?,

It is possible to transmit an STD from giving a guy a “handjob” (hand-genital stimulation), but it is rare. The main STD that could be transmitted in this way would be herpes because herpes can be spread through skin-to-skin contact. However, for herpes to transmitted one of the people would need to be infected with the herpes virus and there would need to be an open sore where the skin-to-skin contact is occurring for transmission to occur.

If you ever notice visible sores, rashes, or any other kind of physical problem – avoid any kind of sexual contact until that person has been to the doctor and all sores have healed.

If you have any further questions about STD transmission you can speak to your primary care physician, adolescent medicine specialist, school nurse, or health teacher at school. If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
