Dear Period - Blood Coming From Butt & Vagina?,

FX can see why you are concerned and wondering if this is normal. Here is some information for you:

It sounds as if the bleeding from your rectum is only present when you are having your periods. If it is occurring during other times as well, you could possibly be suffering from hemorrhoids. Other reasons for rectal bleeding could be a cut or a fissure on the outside or inside of the rectum. This cut can come from straining to pass a hard bowel movement or trauma during anal sex. Please check out Blood During Wiping for more information. If, however, the rectal bleeding is occurring only during your periods there may be more going on.

Either way, just to make sure everything is okay and ease your worries, TeenHealthFX suggests you see a doctor. Although your newfound bleeding problem may be related to hemorrhoids or rectal fissures, it is best to be sure. If you do not have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. Outside of NJ, please call your local hospital for a referral. If you are worried that this is something sexually related and cannot see your own doctor, call your local Planned Parenthood or teen health center.
