If you are going to have sex with your partner in the shower, using a condom is still a very important thing to do. While birth control offers protection against pregnancy it does nothing to protect you from sexually transmitted diseases.
If you are using a condom in the shower there are a few things you need to be aware of.
· The water from the shower can wash off the lubricant that may be on the condom. Lubricated condoms cause less friction during intercourse and are less likely to break.
· Some condoms are lubricated with a chemical that can kill sperm, called “nonoxynol-9”. This too can be washed off in the shower, making the condom a little less effective at preventing pregnancy.
· If you use some kinds of soaps, shampoos, or oils in the shower and they get on the condom, they may cause the latex of the condom to “break down,” and make them susceptible to breaking.
· High water temperature can also weaken condoms and cause them to break.
It is always best to use a condom whenever and wherever you have sex, but you need to be more watchful when having sex in the shower.
