Dear Have A Friend Who Could Be Pregnant,

If your friend had unprotected sex, there is a definite possibility that she could be pregnant. If she has any reason to think she might be pregnant, FX recommends that she speak with her doctor as soon as possible so that she find out whether she is pregnant and learn what her options are in the event that she is.

If your friend needs to find a free pregnancy testing center, she can call 866-942-6466. If she is pregnant, given that this is an unplanned pregnancy, she can call 1-800-672-2296 for guidance and information. And if she is pregnant, but has no medical insurance, she can call 1-800-450-0183. She can also speak to a health care professional at a Planned Parenthood clinic.

FX can appreciate that your friend may be feeling very scared about this, but it is important that she not ignore this problem. The sooner she finds out whether or not she is pregnant, the better. If she is not pregnant, she can have peace of mind and can learn from her doctor how to better protect herself in the future by using condoms each and every time she has sex along with a back-up method of birth control, such as the pill. If she is pregnant, the sooner she finds out the better because it gives her time to decide how she wants to handle the pregnancy.

If your friend is 14, FX also recommends that she think about whether or not she is truly ready to be having sex. Becoming pregnant is always a possibility (of course much less of one when safer sex is practiced) when it comes to having sex as abstinence is the only 100% way to prevent pregnancy. If she is not ready to deal with possible situations like this, she may want to think about whether or not she is truly ready to be sexually active.
