Dear Can You Get Pregnant From 20 Seconds of Unprotected Sex?,

In order for pregnancy to occur, sperm found in ejaculatory or pre-ejaculatory fluids needs to come in contact with the vagina. If in a 20 second period of time, your partner ejaculates during sex or has pre-ejaculatory fluids that come in contact with the vagina, then pregnancy would be a possibility.

However, in your case TeenHealthFX thinks that pregnancy is very unlikely. For one thing, it does not sound like your partner ejaculated during sex. Secondly, you took emergency contraception 60 hours after having sex and the morning after pill is most effective if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Again, FX thinks that pregnancy is extremely unlikely in your case. However, if you miss your period for some reason, FX recommends that you take a pregnancy test or meet with your primary care physician, gynecologist or adolescent medicine specialist.

If you are going to be sexually active, TeenHealthFX thinks it is a good idea for you to be on some form of birth control such as the pill. Doctors generally recommend that teens and young adults who are sexually active use some form of birth control (such as the pill or birth control shot), as well as condoms as a back-up method of birth control and for protection against the transmission of STDs.

If you ever have any questions about safer sex or birth control, feel free to write into us again and/or to speak with your doctor about it. FX also recommends you take a look at our Resource of the Month: Planned Parenthood Resources on Safer Sex so that you can learn about how pregnancy happens, birth control, STDs, pregnancy tests, emergency contraception and sexual readiness.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment with an adolescent medicine specialist or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
