Heroin / Question
Published: April 16, 2003
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I know an ex-heroin addict. She was turned away from it for a while, but since then has started wanting more of the opiate. Is there anything I can do without involving her parents to stop her from harming herself?

Dear Friend Is An Ex-Heroin Addict That Wants to Go Back,
Your friend is very lucky to have you in her life. Drug addiction is a serious issue, and relapses often occur as people attempt to stop using. Heroin addiction is an especially serious condition, which often leads to illness and in some cases, death. While your concern and support is important, your friend is in need of serious interventions from trained professionals.
FX realizes that you do not want to involve her parents, but this is necessary to get her the help she needs. This is not a problem you can handle. She needs professional help and the support of her family. If speaking to her parents is completely not an option, you can speak to a trusted adult at school or your own parents and let them get her the help she needs.
