Depression / Question
Published: January 14, 2004

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I just wanted to share my story with all of you who are depressed: even though you don't think there's a solution, there is, you CAN feel better if you just get help, it's the hardest part. I tried to commit suicide, and that's the most stupid thing I've ever done. Don't do it, trust me, it's NOT worth it. Talk to someone. Please follow my advice. Thanks for posting my story.

Dear Share My Story Of Depression - You Can Feel Better,

TeenHealthFX appreciates that you wrote to let others know that there is help available to teens (and adults, for that matter) who are feeling depressed. What you have experienced, that getting help works, is absolutely true - depression is a highly treatable illness. We are so glad you took the time to write to your peers.

For those of you who are feeling depressed, TeenHealthFX recommends that you talk with your parents or another trusted adult about how you are feeling and let them know that you want to get help. For assistance in finding a mental health professional call the the Access Center from Atlantic Behavioral Health at 888-247-1400 if you live in northern New Jersey. If you live outside of this area log onto the US Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website for referrals in your area.
