Questions About Therapy/Concerns About Therapists / Question
Published: May 22, 2003
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I'm fifteen years old, and in distress. My mother will NOT take me for psychological care no matter how much I beg, and the place I was suggested to by a doctor doesn't allow confidential services. They're a moneymaking clinic. I don't want continued therapy, I just need to know what's wrong with me so I can help myself and my friends can help me. Therefore, I just need the evaluation. And though the school psychologist had suggested that I had what seems to be developing BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) they can't tell enough and can't make a legal diagnosis. I was wondering if you could possible give me any places in MORRIS COUNTY that do confidential (no parental permission) psychoevaluations so I can know what's wrong with me - either paid or for free. Thank you.

Dear Want A One Shot Psychological Evaluation Confidentially,
In New Jersey, minors are not entitled to confidential psychological evaluations, free or for a fee.
TeenHealthFX recommends that you try talking to your mother again and let her know how much distress you feel. If this will not work, we suggest that you again talk to your school psychologist who can talk to your mother about your psychological needs.
If at anytime you feel that your emotions are out of control, you can call the Morristown Memorial Crisis Hotline at 973.540.0100 - it is available 24 hours, seven days a week year round. You can also call the Suicide and Crisis Hotline at 800.999.9999 also available at all time.
