Published: September 5, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I was recently raped and the guy did use a condom but I am really scared that maybe it broke or something and I'm going to end up pregnant? What can I do? My parents don't know I was raped and I'm afraid to tell them so I don't know what to do...please help me.

Dear Raped He Used Condom But Still Worried,

Do not be afraid to tell your parents what has happened to you. You did nothing wrong; you were the victim of a sexual assault. It is very important that when dealing with this horrible experience that you have the support and help of your parents. They can make sure that you get the appropriate medical attention and help get you into therapy. There are many complicated emotions that can occur as the result of being sexually assaulted. Specially trained therapists and support groups made up of other women who have also been victims of sexual abuse can assist you as you piece your life back together

Also, these people can help and guide you through the legal process if you decide to press charges against your assailant. Make your parents or an adult you trust know right away, what has happened to you, so you do not have to suffer in silence.

If you would like help finding a therapist, group or more information contact Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAIN) at their website, or call 1-800-656-HOPE (4673), 24 hours, 7days a week.
