Dear TeenHealthFX,

If I have a problem where as I may think I might have an infection or something is it appropriate to bring up questions during annual physical if I don't go to a gynecologist?

Dear Bringing Up Questions During Annual Physical,

It is certainly appropriate for you to bring up any sort of question concerning your health at an annual physical. Your doctor is there to help you, not criticize or judge you, so you should always feel free to ask him/her anything.

TeenHealthFX is worried about your possible infection. If you think that you may have an infection or are feeling any side effects, it is important to see a doctor immediately. Do not wait for an annual physical if any problems occur in the meantime. You did not mention in your question if you are sexually active. It is a good idea to see a gynecologist if you are sexually active or above the age of 18. A woman begins to have special needs at this point in her life that a gynecologist is aware of.

If you are sexually active and cannot get an appointment with your own doctor, or just do not feel comfortable discussing these issues with him/her, then you should go to your local teen health clinic or Planned Parenthood. If you live in Northern New Jersey you can call the Adolescent Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 889.6350. Take care of yourself, and if you have any further questions concerning your infection or health please do not hesitate to ask.
