Pee & Urine Issues - Pain, Bed-Wetting, Amount & Frequency / Question
Published: October 20, 2005
Dear TeenHealthFX,
When relieving myself I get an aching headache. It’s as if it’s in my neck and it hurts like hell and lasts until I go to sleep. This is scaring me because I haven’t had sex yet, and if my head hurts this badly when I have sex I don’t want it to happen. Seeing a doctor is out of the question, even though you may think its necessary.. Please reply ASAP.

Dear Headache When Relieving Myself,
Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX cannot make diagnoses over the Internet, and despite your comment that “seeing a doctor is out of the question,” it is absolutely essential that you go to see one. TeenHealthFX is a assuming that you are referring to urination but the response could also be applicable for masturbation.
If you get a headache whenever you relieve yourself, then you must be experiencing this incredible pain at least several times each day. Since sleeping seems to be the only way that you can stop the pain, then having such persistent headaches is probably affecting your quality of life on a daily basis. In general, people should see a doctor if they have a constant headache for several days, headaches that recur frequently or headaches that are accompanied by any of the following symptoms:
- Sudden, severe pain ("the worst headache I've ever had")
- Confusion or a change in level of consciousness or behavior
- Sudden loss of movement or muscle weakness in one part or all of one side of your body
- Sudden vision change, such as dimness, blurring, double vision, or loss of vision in one or both eyes
- Sudden, persistent difficulty speaking or difficulty understanding speech
- New or different headache with a seizure (convulsion)
- A headache with nausea and vomiting that is causing severe dehydration
- A headache that occurs with strenuous physical or sexual activity (exertional headache)
You are obviously suffering a great deal with these headaches- a visit to the doctor will put you on the right road to recovery, and will ease your mind as far as to what is going on. A teen health center can see you confidentially and on a low/no cost basis. If you live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973.971.5199 for an appointment. Please do yourself a favor and get yourself checked out.
