I looked at my parents they don't have this problem. I didn't last year but this year I do, it seems when I wake up my eyes are all veiny and yellowish kind of then during the day it gets real bad. what could be the problem? Please help.

Dear Dark Circles and Yellow, Veiny Eyes,

Dark circles under your eyes may be an inherited condition that is often exaggerated by fatigue and lack of sleep. Because the skin under the eye is thinner than any other place on your body, blood vessels appear more noticeable (especially if you are fair-skinned). Changes in your diet, exercise and sleeping patterns can affect your overall nutrient and fatigue levels which can change the appearance of this area.

As for the yellowish color present in your eyes, it can be a sign of many things and only your doctor can tell you for sure. There are many factors that can affect the color of the whites of your eyes. Is it possible that it could be allergies? Have you come in contact with any irritants? Is any other part of your body yellow also? It is important that you see your doctor. He or she can perform a thorough exam and fully evaluate your symptoms.

TeenHealthFX unfortunately cannot diagnose you over the Internet and strongly urges you to tell your parents your concerns. Arrange to see your doctor for an evaluation and treatment recommendations. If you do not have a doctor and you live in northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. If you live elsewhere, get in touch with your local adolescent health center or clinic for an appointment.
