Hairy Situations: Too Much, Too Little & Shaving / Question
Published: February 23, 2004
Dear TeenHealthFX,
First of all I love your site... wanted to ask you, something has been bothering me lately. I've had facial hair for maybe three years now (I'm 17), and for the whole time the hair on my chin has grown in really crooked, like it all grows to the right. It's embarrassing when I haven't shaved in a little while and people notice that all my facial hair grows in the same direction. I've tried shaving against it to see if that fixed anything but so far no results. Is this common? What do I do to fix it?

Dear Facial Hair Grows Really Crooked,
Male facial hair tends to grow in different directions that is true. However, there is little you can do to control how it grows in. Facial hair is just like your hair on your head. It has it's own growth pattern.
For more information on the correct way to shave, see TeenHealthFX's Answer to How To's Shaving My Face.
As far as being embarrassed about your hair growth pattern, try to remember that this is just one element in who you are. And hair growth does not define you as a person.
