Stretch Marks And Such / Question
Published: September 18, 2001

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I've got really gross looking stretch marks on my thighs. I'm desperate to get rid of them. Any suggestions?

Dear Desperate Stretch Marks,

Stretch marks are very common and appear on everyone's body. There is nothing that will make them disappear altogether so do not waste your money on products that make this claim. Stretch marks can fade over time changing from deep red marks to thin white lines.

There are over the counter products that will make them less noticeable. You could check with a pharmacist to find a reliable product. If your stretch marks are really pronounced or really bother you, TeenHealthFX recommends that you see a dermatologist (skin doctor) to see if a prescription medication would help. You could also talk to your doctor about laser surgery, which has shown to be effective in reducing stretch mark visibility.
