Dear TeenHealthFX,
What do they test for in physicals? Like in the piss test and stuff?

Dear What's Tested In Physicals,
TeenHealthFX wonders if you are worried about something in particular.
The answer is that different doctors do different types of physicals. Some physical exams are more comprehensive than other. Doctors or nurse practitioners may order specific tests based on the symptoms you may be experiencing at the time of the exam. Some tests, like tests on urine and blood may be ordered as a routine part of your physical. These tests look for conditions like high cholesterol, for which you would not have any symptoms.
Doctors often ask about pubertal development, sexual history, etc. If you have any questions about your development it would be a great time to ask. Most doctors are very interested in educating you about your body and are happy to provide answers to any of the questions you may have.
Urine tests are generally to check to see if there is material present in your urine that should not be there like blood or protein. During routine physicals doctors do not check for drugs unless there has been a specific request (sometimes by a parent). The test cannot be done unless they inform you and receive your permission.
