Dear TeenHealthFX,

I've had a lump in my neck just below the end of my jawbone for about five months now. I saw my doctor about it and she told me it isn't uncommon for lymph glands to remain swollen for some time after an infection has passed. Is five months uncommon?

Dear Uncommon Lymph Node Swelling,

The length of time depends on how big the node is, other characteristics of the node (firmness, tender etc.) and whether or not other problems are present.

If your doctor examined you then she probably did not have any major concerns. This said, since you still have the lump you should go back to your doctor and ask her to examine you again.
