Aches & Pains / Question
Published: February 25, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

My 13-year-old has suddenly starting having episodes of dizziness, weakness and irritability that last for approximately 30 minutes. These episodes happen everyday and sometimes more then once a day. She can no longer go to school, social functions or church because she does not know when these will come on. We have seen a neurologist and are now going to see a psychologist and cardiologist. Could this possibly be something hormonal and if so what type of doctor would we see.

Dear Daughter With Episiodes of Dizziness, Weakness & Irritablility,

TeenHealthFX is concerned that this problem has gotten to the point that your daughter's daily routine has been affected by these symptoms. It is great that you have supported her interest in getting well by taking her to the doctor. We are unable to provide a diagnosis, and cannot even begin to determine what the problem might be because the symptoms that you have described can be related to a large number of conditions. It is unlikely (but again we cannot diagnose) that hormones are to blame for this illness.

The type of physicians you have consulted are appropriate to continue the evaluation of your daughter's symptoms.

FX hopes that you continue to be an advocate for your daughter's well being.

Signed: TeenHealthFX
