Diabetes And Blood Sugar Issues / Question
Published: August 5, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

What is the normal blood sugar level for a teenage girl?

Signed: Normal Blood Sugar Levels

Dear Normal Blood Sugar Levels,

Normal blood sugar levels in teens may depend on a variety of factors but closely border normal levels for an adult. Normal blood sugar levels for adults are 80-120 mg/dl before meals and 100-140 mg/dl at bedtime. These guidelines may be modified for teenagers and children so it is necessary to check with your doctor. Factors including lifestyle, age, and many medical conditions can alter these guidelines.

TeenHealthFX wonders why you are asking this question. Are you worried that you may have low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), or that it is too high? Are you worried about diabetes? If you are concerned about your blood sugar, speak to your doctor about what may be normal for you.
