Dear TeenHealthFX,
I am only 14 yet I already have very bad cellulite. I am not overweight at all and I take ballet four times a week, so I don't understand why. I have this problem. Is there anything I can do to get rid of my ugly lumpy legs? I am embarrassed to be seen in a swimsuit because my legs and thighs look like an old lady's.

Dear Very Bad Cellulite,
Cellulite is formed when connective tissues beneath the skin becomes weak and deformed. This connective tissue acts as an anchor between the muscles and the skin. When the connective tissues become weak, the body fat that lies beneath the skin bulges upward and causes an uneven appearance. There are many thoughts about the exact causes of cellulite, but there are no concrete answers regarding prevention and treatment. The amount of cellulite that you have is caused by hereditary and the total amount of fat in your body
There are many products that have been introduced recently to help fight cellulite, but these creams, wraps, and pills cause minimal short-term results at best. While many physicians encourage weight loss and exercise in patients who complain about cellulite, this often is not enough to reduce the appearance of these problem areas. Also, in order to see results, you may have to exercise daily for up to six months, which is a hard regimen for most people to stick to.
TeenHealthFX believes that since this is a concern for you that you speak to your doctor and see what he/she recommends. You may even want to consult a dermatologist. You sound like you are very active and not overweight. We do not recommend changing your current lifestyle until you speak to your doctor.
