Dear TeenHealthFX,
I like a guy who is in college and I am in High school and my mom had a cow becuz he is older then 18 but yet I feel we connect and he is very respectfull and caring to me so ... what should I do about my mom if we do hook up?

Age differences in relationships can be very tricky. Sometimes, you cannot control who you will feel attracted to and what the situation may be. However it is important to realize that differences in age can strain relationships and force a less experienced partner into unfamiliar territory.
While this guy may be respectful and care for you, your mom is only looking out for your well-being. If you are a minor dating an older guy this could lead to some messy situations. It is important to remember that this guy has experienced certain situations and life lessons that you have yet to experience. There will always be a slight generation gap that you cannot fill because of his age. In turn you can be put into awkward situations and perhaps forced to do things you would not otherwise do.
It is important to consider all points of view. You need to speak to your mom about how the both of you are feeling. Discussing the situation will allow you to see what specifically bothers your mom and you can state your concerns. Getting things in the open will keep the lines of communication open and show your mom that you are taking a careful and responsible approach to this relationship.
