Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am a 15 year old male. I actually come from the UK, but I still think that school life is the same. Anyway, this girl told me that she really liked me. This is kind of new, as all the other girls think I’m the funny, mildly -attractive one (I asked). I think she is really sweet and pretty. However, all my friends say that she is 'a mong' and that I could do better. I kind of feel strongly about her, but I don’t know if that’s only because she likes me. What should I do?

Dear Friends Think I Could Do Better,

Since you do feel so strongly about this girl and think that she is “sweet and pretty,” TeenHealthFX suggests that you ask the girl out and go from there. FX thinks that some of the things that really matter in the end are that you genuinely like her, that you have fun and feel good when the two of you are together, that you feel she treats you with kindness and respect, and that the two of you bring out the positive qualities in one another. If you find this is the case as you get to know her, remind your friends that they do not have to date her if they do not want to, but that you do want them to respect your desire to date her and to treat both of you with some courtesy about it.
