Sibling Issues / Question
Published: June 26, 2007
Dear TeenHealthFX,
Hey my big sister is a big mean ***** (excuse language) she's always calling me selfish, a big baby, loser, and other things whenever she doesn't get her way. She's like one of those bullies you see in cartoons, except for real, living with me, and 100x worse. She yells at me because I don't "stand up for myself" but I just ignore her when she’s saying stuff. She's so immature, even though she says it's the other way around. Please respond, because you never responded before even though I sent like 50 different messages... if u doesn’t respond soon, I’ll just stop and give up.

Dear My Sister Bullies Me,
FX can appreciate the stress of dealing with a sibling’s bullying behaviors. The first thing we recommend that you do is to speak to your parents about what is going on between you and your sister. While it is important for you to learn and practice techniques that help you to better deal with your sister’s bullying behaviors, it is also your parents’ responsibility to make sure that you are feeling protected and safe in your own home – as well as to make sure that your sister gets the message that such behaviors will not be tolerated in your house.
If you find that after speaking to your parents, they are not doing anything to be helpful to you with this, FX recommends that you speak to a staff member at your school or extended family member who could guide and support you in how to deal with this situation, as well as intervene on your behalf with your parents to make sure that you have their support in this as well.
