Dear TeenHealthFX,

i'm a 14 year old male and i recently helped my dad by putting something away of his in my mom and dad's room. While i was there I found condoms. I dont know if its just me but i found this kinda weird. Is it normal?

Dear Found Condoms In Parents' Room And Feel Weird,

TeenHealthFX thinks that it is normal for your parents to have condoms in their bedroom. If a married couple does not want to have children at the moment, they would be recommended (the same as we recommend out teen readers) to use birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies. And this could take the form of the pill, condoms, or various other methods of birth control.

FX also thinks that it is normal for you to feel “weird” about what you found. For many understandable reasons, children and teens tend to see their parents just as “mom” and “dad” – viewing them simply as two members of the family, rather than a married couple where there is sexual attraction. So to find the condoms and to think about them as having a sexual relationship will feel a little strange. But remember that there is nothing wrong with them having a sexual relationship and having condoms in their possession – and there is also nothing wrong with your not wanting to put too much time and energy into thinking of this side of their relationship!
