Difficulties In Making Friends & Not Enough Time With Friends / Question
Published: May 9, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I just moved to a new school about 4 months ago. I hate it. I've tried to make new friends, but most of them don't seem to like me. I've tried being myself and talking to other people and being friendly, but nothing works. I really want to tell my parents that I want to move back to my previous school and they'll probably let me, but I also want to try and make some more new friends. None of them never seem to want to talk to me. What should I do?

Dear New School - Hate It,

Being a new person at school can be pretty awkward, not to mention scary. You sound somewhat frustrated that your efforts so far are not paying off.

Try to get yourself involved. Often finding something in common with others can break the ice in making friends. Joining a club or other activity sometimes helps this process happen more naturally. The key is to just be yourself, be patient with yourself and others, and stay positive! Being a positive person will help make your efforts pay off!
