Breasts: They Come In All Shapes & Sizes / Question
Published: April 23, 2002
Dear TeenHealthFX,
My breasts are a B cup but they are not very big and I want them bigger. I am 13 and I want to know how much longer my breast will grow. My mother doesn't have very big breasts. Does this matter?

Dear Want Bigger Breasts,
Breast size, like many other physical traits is genetic. So your mother's genes will play a role in your breast development.
The onset and duration of puberty varies among young people. There is no exact timetable that can pinpoint when physical features will develop. A simple rule of thumb is that, your body will continue to develop for four years after the onset of menstruation. For more information on breast development, please see How Does A Breast Grow.
TeenHealthFX is worried that you are focusing on only one aspect of your appearance instead of the total picture. How comfortable would you feel dating a person who was only interested in you because of your breast size? Our point being that you probably have many great qualities that make you unique as a person which you would not be able to share with a person with such a narrow focus.
