Male Puberty Issues / Question
Published: October 16, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am 15 and have not had a wet dream yet. I masturbate about every day (although I'm not addicted to it). I would like to experience a wet dream. Is there any way that I can have a wet dream (stop masturbating, etc.)?

Dear Wants To Have A Wet Dream,

Unfortunately, TeenHealthFX doesn't know of a way to make you have a wet dream. Wet dreams can be a part of puberty, but they do not happen to every male. In fact, only about 50% of boys will have a wet dream during their teenage years. In general, they become less frequent, or even stop when a male becomes more sexually active, either with a partner or through masturbation. So while there is no data to show that stopping masturbation will actually make you have a wet dream, it wouldn not hurt you if you took a few days off from masturbation to see what happens.
