Dear TeenHealthFX,

I would like to know if there are any side effects after stopping taking Microgestin. (I took it for 2 1/2 years.) I have been getting really bad headaches and am wondering if this may be the cause. Thank you in advance for your help!!

Dear Side Effects Of Stopping Microgestin?,

Microgestin, similar to most oral contraceptives can sometimes cause headaches and may sometimes even aggravate migraines.  However, these effects are usually seen while you are on the pill.

If you have stopped using microgestin for a long time and you are now having really bad headaches.  Your headaches may be caused by something totally unrelated to your history of oral contraceptive use.

The best thing to do is to see your doctor if you continue to have your headaches. Note the characteristics of your headaches.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-5199 for an appointment or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood.
