Female Body Concerns / Question
Published: April 24, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

It seems my cervix is too low, about an inch from my vagina. Also it sometimes hurts when I have sex. Is this normal? What can I do to fix it?

Dear Cervix Seems Too Low,

FX has answered almost your exact question before. Please see our response to Cervix To Low?.

In addition to checking out our response to this question, FX recommends that you see an adolescent medicine physician, your doctor or a gynecologist just to make sure everything is okay. A visit to the doctor and a gynecological exam would help you find out if everything is normal or if this is something that needs to be treated. Most doctors will explain the various parts of the anatomy as they examine you, so you'll know what to look for in the future. The doctor can also inform you of the changes your body goes through as it matures and safer sex/birth control methods.

If you would like to be seen at the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health in Morristown, New Jersey, you can call 973.971.6475 for an appointment. Outside of northern New Jersey, please call your local Planned Parenthood.
