Masturbation / Question
Published: April 25, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

I am a 14 year-old male who has been masturbating at an average of 6 times a day and even more on weekends. Is this wrong? I have also been getting it up (getting an erection) while looking at my friend's mother. This is wrong I think or is it? I think she is attractive and when I told my friend, he hit me. I don't know why?

Dear Lots Of Masturbating,

There is nothing really wrong by being aroused by your friend's mother, but you are probably better off not mentioning it to your friend. It is his mother and he probably views her in a different light then you do. Think about it, how would you feel if someone said your mom turned him on. It is okay to have these feeling of attraction for his mother, but TeenHealthFX does not think that it would be a good idea for you to act on them or discuss them with your friend.

When it comes to excessive masturbation, as long as it is not interfering with your life in a negative way, then it is generally considered okay. (Example, Keeping you from participating in other activities). At 14 it's not unusual to become more aware of sexual feelings and have frequent erections. Masturbation is a safe healthy way to release this sexual energy. For more information on this topic, check out Love To Masturbate or Masturbation Addiction.
