Birth Control Methods: Condoms / Question
Published: April 17, 2000

Dear TeenHealthFX,

How can I get condoms for free?

Signed: Free Condoms

Dear Free Condoms,

TeenHealthFX is glad to see that you want to take responsibility for your sexual activity by getting condoms and using them. There are many places that will provide teenagers with free or reduced cost condoms, birth control counseling and STD counseling on a confidential basis. Call your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood in your area. If you live in Northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 889.6350. Teen health centers can see teenagers on a reduced/no cost basis without your parent's permission for sexual health reasons. HIV counseling & testing centers also may give out free condoms. They are listed in the front of your telephone book.

Take responsibility for your life and your sexual activity. Having sex is a big decision and one that needs to be thought and talked out. You and your partner should both be checked out by a teen health center. The health professionals and doctors can offer you birth control counseling and STD education. They can also advise you on the correct way of using condoms. Taking care of you, by using birth control and condoms to prevent pregnancy and STDs, is an important part of becoming a responsible adult.
