Oral & Anal Sex / Question
Published: September 26, 2002

Dear TeenHealthFX,

My boyfriend was giving me head the other day and he accidentally bit me. I think it is serious and I may need stitches, but I am too ashamed. What do I do?

Dear Boyfriend Bit Me During Oral Sex,

TeenHealthFX understands that this must be uncomfortable for you but if you have an open wound anywhere on your body that you suspect is deep enough to warrant stitches then it is important that you see a doctor. Even though the cut may heal on its own, having it treated can both help to prevent scarring and prevent infection from getting inside and causing further problems.

Please keep in mind that doctors are not there to judge you - they are there to help. As embarrassing as your situation may feel to you, believe it or not, they have probably seen the same thing before -- if not worse -- and are just there to help make you feel better.

You can be seen at a local teen clinic or Planned Parenthood without parental permission and for little or no cost. If you would like to be seen by a doctor from the Adolescent/Young Adult Center For Health in northern New Jersey, you can call 973.971.6475 for an appointment. Since it sounds like you are sexually active, it would be a good idea to talk to him or her about practicing safer sex  while you are there.
