Birth Control Methods: Condoms / Question

Dear TeenHealthFX,
My friend thinks she's pregnant-she hasn't had her period in close to a month. She said she used 2 condoms. But then everyone is saying that 2 condoms are worse than one because they rub against each other and break or something. What's the whole story on that 2 condom thing? I'm just trying to be a good friend and help her out. Please help me.

It is noble of you to be concerned about your friend but ultimately she must take responsibility for her actions. You can only provide her with support and information.
To set the two condom issue straight, wearing two condoms does in fact reduce the effectiveness of a condom. Using two condoms together creates friction making the condom easier to break. If your friend thinks she is pregnant she should see a doctor immediately to know for sure. If she does not feel comfortable seeing her own doctor she can visit a local teen health center. The center will see her at a low/no cost and confidential basis. There she can receive an exam, proper testing and information about her pregnancy. A counselor can discuss the options of adoption, keeping the child and abortion with her. It is imperative that your friend seeks medical attention for her own and baby's health.
