Male Body Concerns / Question
Published: October 8, 2003

Dear TeenHealthFX,

Every so often, my testicles hurt. Actually it goes way back, years, but before I would feel certain discomfort for one day and then it would disapear for months. And then come back for a moment during a day and then again, gone for months. But for the past say 7 months the discomfort/pain was increasing and now I'd say it's every other day that I feel it. I figured there's something wrong since I first felt it on my left testicle and recently it comes from both. I guess I have sort of stupid question on which type of doctor I should make appointment with? I assume I should see Urologist but from reading about them I couldn't find anything about testicles- perhaps not all of them take care of that? I don't want to pull my pants down for 2 doctors if it's not necessary. Perhaps I should see general doctor first? Please help.

Dear Pain In Testicles - What Doctor Should I See?,

TeenHealthFX does not think this is a stupid question at all and it is understandable why it might be uncomfortable for you to go to more than one doctor for such a sensitive problem, but we are glad that you are taking care of your health. You could start with a Urologist (they do take care of problems with testicles) and he/she can evaluate you and recommend a course of treatment.

If you do not have a doctor and you live in Northern New Jersey, please call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at (973) 971.6475. If you live elsewhere, get in touch with your local adolescent health center or clinic.
