Sexuality & Sexual Health: Miscellaneous / Question
Published: April 28, 2007
Dear TeenHealthFX,
I just want to know what it means if someone lies to you to get sex. I broke up with my boyfriend because he kept lying to me but about a month later I saw him and he said he was going to be honest with me n that he was sorry, I still loved him and believe what he said and we ended up having sex again. But I found out he was still lying to me about stuff and now it seems like he just lied again to get sex and although I didn’t say no when it happened I feel really bad now about it and really confused and unsure if he has done anything wrong?

Dear Someone Lied To Me To Get Sex,
TeenHealthFX is very sorry to hear that your ex-boyfriend lied to you in order to have sex with you – and we do feel that in doing that he did something wrong. If someone lies to you in order to have sex with you it means that person is not honest, caring, or worthy of your time, attention, and love. Sex should be about loving feelings and wanting to be close with someone in a very special way. It should not be about being deceitful, manipulative, or hurtful.
Unfortunately, there are people out there who do not have the best intentions when it comes to having sex. Therefore, FX strongly recommends that you spend a great deal of time getting to know someone before having sex with that person. That way, you can see through both their words AND their actions that they genuinely care about you. Because there are so many strong emotions connected with having sex and being physically intimate with someone, it is best to develop a strong friendship and emotional connection with your significant other before taking things to the next level with sex.
And, as always, when you do feel emotionally ready to have sex, remember to always practice safer sex and to meet with a physician to discuss ways to protect yourself against STDs and unwanted pregnancies prior to engaging in any sexual activities.
