Dear Does Being Fingered Impact Your Period In Any Way?,

The act of a finger being inserted into the vagina will not impact the menstrual cycle in any way. The only way your period could be effected is if there is semen present on the finger, the semen comes in contact with the vagina, and pregnancy occurs, causing missed periods.

If bleeding occurs after being fingered, the bleeding may not be related to your period. It is possible that the person doing the “fingering” somehow caused a tear in the tissue. If any other unusual symptoms occur it is also possible that an STD was transmitted.

If your period has been irregular, you are having any type of continuous bleeding or pains following being “fingered,” or you are experiencing any other types of unusual symptoms, FX recommends that you meet with your doctor or an adolescent medicine specialist as soon as possible so that you can get a clear idea of what is causing your symptoms and what treatments might be necessary.

If you don't have a doctor and live in northern New Jersey, you can call the Adolescent/Young Adult Center for Health at 973-971-6475 for an appointment or contact your local teen health center or Planned Parenthood. You can also contact your insurance company for a list of in-network providers.
